The Commandments of Valhalla

In the beginning the Creators of Valhalla laid down the following commandments for all players to follow. They were written to keep Valhalla fun for everyone, players and administrators alike. They are the same rules you will find in the game with help rules, and breaking them is dealt with by punishment that fits the offence.

  1. Sexual harassment of other characters will not be tolerated and results in immediate dismissal from the game.
  2. No more than two characters controlled by the same player may be online at the same time. You may own more, but only two can play at once. Logging on more than two results in the dismissal of all of that player's characters.
  3. Exploiting a bug brings immediate punishment. If you think you have found one, tell the administrators and let them handle it or give you instructions. If you are not sure whether something is a bug, report it and do not use it.
  4. Player killing is only allowed between people who have signed the Book of Blood. Anything to do with player killing, including helping or hindering during a fight, having a mob kill a player, rescuing or healing a mob that is fighting a player, is only allowed between signers. Only thieves who have signed the book may steal from other players, and only from players who have also signed. Punishment ranges from a warning to the banning of all your characters, so when in doubt, stay out of it.
  5. Obscene or offensive language is not tolerated on the public channels (shout and newbie), and public channels are English only, since staff cannot judge what was said in another language. What you do in the privacy of a room is between you and the people in it. Abusing the public channels costs you the ability to use them, and mailing the administrator who silenced you to beg may extend the silence or make it permanent.
  6. Be polite and courteous to other players. They are here to enjoy the game and everyone gets an equal chance to. Overly annoying and excessively obnoxious characters will be dealt with.
  7. If an action seems questionable, do not do it. The administration decides what is and is not wrong; nobody can list every legal and illegal act in advance.
  8. Read all boards and announcements. If a warning was posted and you did not read it, you are still responsible. Take the two or three minutes when you log on.
  9. Do not ask administrators for objects, healing or help advancing. Save your breath and their time.
  10. Robots and computer-controlled characters are illegal. If you are not the one controlling your character's actions, it is illegal, and all characters of a player found using one are dismissed.
  11. We punish the player, not the character. If you are found guilty of an offence, all of your characters can be punished. That is not always the outcome, but in extreme cases it is the only one. The administration is not here to hurt you, but to make sure everyone is treated fairly and with respect.
  12. Donation areas are for donating players only. Getting around the restrictions will be caught and punished. Donations do not make anyone money; they pay for the servers the game runs on, and cheating them hurts only the players and the mud.

Player killing and the Book of Blood

The Book of Blood is the one and only way a player may fight other players on Valhalla. After level 10 you may go to the library in Midgaard and sign it. Once signed, your name is never removed, so do not ask. A signer may never kill, steal from or loot a non-signer, and a non-signer may never do any of those things to anyone. "Killing" includes having a mob do it for you, summoning a player to a mob or a mob to a player, and rescuing or healing a mob that is fighting a player.

  • A non-signer who kills, steals from or loots a player is flagged for life.
  • A signer who does it to a non-signer is demoted a level, and deleted if it continues.

Clients, triggers, scripts and bots

An alias is a shortcut for one or more commands. A trigger is an action that fires on output from the game. A script is a program that runs a character without a human. Scripts are fully illegal. Aliases and triggers are fine as long as they are used, not abused: if no human is sitting at the screen controlling the character, it is illegal. Group triggers are allowed, but not while you are away from the keyboard.

This is not about lag. The game was made to be played, not automated. There is no fun in setting your character online and going to bed, and no pride in having a high-level character drag around someone else's newbie for free levels while its owner is off having a beer. If you do not want to play your character, please do not keep one on Valhalla. Abuse of this rule results in the deletion of every character involved.
